Taylor House, a gracious sixteen room Victorian home in Boston’s Jamaica Plain section, was built around 1853 for George W. Taylor, an international merchant head-quartered in Boston. It is situated within the Monument Square Historic District, and lies in an area known as "Pondside", which contains some of Jamaica Plain’s finest suburban architecture. The structure is predominantly Italianate in style, but retains some Greek Revival elements that reflect the earliest architectural style found in Jamaica Plain. A distinctive octagonal cupola sits atop the main house, and this shape is echoed in a number of ways within the interior of the structure.

A multi-stage restoration project was launched in 1996. The exterior was painted in the Summer of 2002.  The addition of a porch to the right side of the house (removed by previous owners) was completed in 2003.  And to top off the restoration, a new kitchen was added in the spring on 2006.  The house is surrounded by Victorian-inspired gardens and lies less than one block from a beautiful pond and a town centre that offers excellent dining and shopping.

A continental plus breakfast that includes fresh baked bread and pastries as well as fresh cut fruit and cereals is served daily on the first floor. We offer a congenial, tasteful and serene environment that will enhance your visit to Boston, whether you are here for business or leisure.  Three spacious guest rooms with private baths are available: the Taylor, Beaumont, and Haffenreffer rooms, named after former owners of the house. living room soft.JPG (26549 bytes)

For more spectacular beauty, the incredible Arnold Arboretum is only 6 blocks away.

In addition to being located in a neighborhood of distinction and great beauty, the Taylor House site offers easy access to attractions through bus and subway transit. Taylor House is located two miles from the Longwood Medical Area, home to many hospitals, research facilities, and educational institutions. The Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum , Symphony Hall, and Fenway Park are also in this area. Just beyond that, the Back Bay, Charles River, and Boston Harbor offer beauty, history, unbelievable shopping, and fascinating restaurants.
